Available treatments and services

Dental Implants

(including bone replacement and sinus lifts)

A dental implant is a metal screw that is used in place of the root of your missing tooth. The dental implant is attached to the bone in your jaw where the roots of the missing tooth sat.

The implant is usually made of a metal called titanium. A dental implant can support a bridge, crown or denture.

Removal of Teeth

(including wisdom teeth)

There are several reasons extraction may be required, if a tooth is loose, broken below the bone (meaning simply filling the tooth is not viable), cracked, infected and root canal treatment isn’t an option, etc. Our dentists will only remove a tooth if it is the patient’s decision, and the last available option, as we believe it’s always better to keep teeth rather than extract them if possible.

Wisdom teeth normally erupt between the ages of 18 to 24 years of age. It is common for wisdom teeth to be impacted, meaning there is no space for them to erupt and it is not common for wisdom teeth to erupt into the right position even if space is available.

Root Canal Treatment

(All stages)

When the nerve (pulp) of a tooth is damaged, infected or has died, root canal treatment is needed to save the tooth. Treatment involves removing the nerve (pulp) and sealing the cavity. A crown is then recommended to provide support to the weakened tooth.

Gum disease treatment

The most likely reason to lose a tooth is from gum disease (periodontal disease). This is where the bacteria in your mouth destroys the gum and bone which holds the tooth in place.

The gum begins to recede, then the tooth becomes loose and eventually needs to be removed. Causes include plaque and bacteria accumulation, smoking, clenching and grinding, and is linked to various medical issues.

Fillings

(Including sealants)

Fillings have been used in dentistry for many years. It is an excellent way to repair cracked, chipped and discoloured teeth as well as replacing silver metal fillings. Fillings can also be used to close gaps and reshape misaligned teeth, providing a straighter, more uniform smile.

Crowns, Bridges and Veneers

A dental crown is a cap or covering for an existing tooth. It can improve the way a decayed or broken tooth looks and make it stronger. Crowns can be made from porcelain, zirconia, gold alloy or a combination of porcelain and metal.

A veneer is a layer of tooth coloured material which is placed over your natural tooth to cover the underlying enamel.

Veneers are designed to enhance the appearance of your teeth by masking permanently stained teeth, closing spaces between your teeth, straightening misaligned teeth and improving the appearance of damaged or broken teeth due to decay or trauma.

Removal of lesions and cysts

An oral lesion excision is surgery to remove a sore, ulcer, or patch (lesion) from inside your mouth. This includes the inner lip or cheek lining, gums, tongue, and floor and roof of the mouth.

General cleans

Daily brushing and flossing are not enough to remove stubborn plaque and tartar build-up. Only a scale and clean at your dentist’s office can do that.

A professional dental clean is a process of removing soft and hard plaque, and stains that cannot be removed with regular toothbrushing at home.

Scaling and cleaning prevents the development of tooth decay and gum disease and is recommended each six months.

Tongue ties

Tongue tie is when a tight band of tissue connects the underside of the tongue to the floor of the mouth, keeping it from moving freely.

Normally, the tongue can move out past the lower lip and reach up to the hard palate (roof of the mouth) and upper teeth.

Removal of gum

Removal of gum (gingivectomy) is the surgical removal of a portion of gum tissue. It can be performed for therapeutic reasons, such as treating a condition like gum overgrowth. It can also be used for cosmetic purposes, such as removing gum tissue to correct a “gummy smile”.

Traditional orthodontics

Braces can correct a wide range of dental issues, including crooked, gapped, rotated or crowded teeth. Braces improve your smile’s health, function and appearance.

Dentures

Dentures are removable appliances used to replace missing teeth, they are fabricated using either acrylic or cobalt chrome to which false teeth are added.

Dentures help with speech, chewing, add support to your lips and chin as well as improving the appearance of your smile. Dentures can replace one or several teeth (partial denture) or the whole set of teeth, on the upper and/or lower (full denture).

Dentures are kept in place by either using clasps which anchor around neighbouring teeth or by the dentures’ natural suction. On occasions a denture fixative or glue is recommended to aid in keeping the denture in place.
